Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson toasted Georgia for 233 total yards and three touchdowns the first time the two teams met on November 11th.

However, Johnson may not get another crack at the Dawgs in this weekend’s SEC Championship Game.

En route to Auburn beating Alabama last weekend, Johnson went down with a shoulder injury making his status for the conference championship game unknown.

“I’m working this week to get back to as healthy as I can be, obviously,” Johnson said. “We’ve been working for this game for a long time, so I’m doing everything I can to get back out there on the field. It’s football. This is week-whatever-it-is, everyone’s banged up. Just got to get back healthy week after week.”

Johnson is doing everything in his power to be able to play on Saturday. He says he has been icing constantly and downplayed the seriousness of the injury.

“Obviously it’s sore, but shoot, I’m sore after every game, and so is everybody else. So it’s nothing more different than any other week,” Johnson said.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart is preparing for Johnson, though.

“They’ve got other backs who are good – probably not as good as Kerryon – but they’ve got other backs who are good SEC backs,” Smart said.

Johnson has 1,276 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns this season, averaging 25 attempts per game. He is the SEC’s second leading rusher.
