After winning the SEC Championship, what’s next for Georgia?
No. 6 ranked Georgia beat No. 2 Auburn Saturday night 28-7 to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Win and you’re in. That was the mantra for the UGA faithful ever since the Dawgs fell to Auburn on November 11th.
Well, the Dawgs won. And they are most likely in.
So what’s next?
As of now, the playoff rankings look like this:
- Ohio State
However, with Clemson beating Miami and Wisconsin falling to Ohio State, here is my updated projections.
- Alabama/Ohio State
Now, Georgia and Oklahoma both had big wins, but either way the two teams are going to be meeting in Pasadena. So it really does not matter who is ranked 2 or who is ranked 3. They are interchangeable.
Clemson cruised to a victory over Miami, so they will stay at No. 1 and get to play in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
Who will Clemson play, though?
Is a 10-2 Ohio State team that won its conference more deserving of a playoff spot than an 11-1 Alabama team that did not win its conference?
I think so. I’d expect the committee to put the Buckeyes in over Alabama, putting emphasis on winning your conference championship.
Either way, Georgia is likely playing Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl.
Here are our projections.
Clemson vs Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl.
Georgia vs Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl.
I know, Georgia beat Auburn who beat Alabama – but I like the idea of avoiding Alabama at all costs, so the Tide being left out would be something I could support.
