When Georgia and Auburn met on November 11th, Auburn had its way with the Dawgs. On December 2nd in the SEC Championship, it was a different story.

Georgia defeated Auburn 28-7 in Atlanta, giving the Dawgs its first SEC Championship since 2005.

Kirby Smart smiled, hugged his staff and jumped for joy as a he was soaked in a Gatorade bath while the clock winded down and Georgia’s national championship dreams rose up.

Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm was nearly perfect, going 16/22 for 183 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

Freshman running back D’andre Swift rushed for 88 yards on 7 carries, including a 64 yard touchdown run. On 13 carries, Nick Chubb had 77 yards. Sony Michel had 45 rushing yards and also added 38 receiving yards.

Mecole Hardman and Terry Godwin led the way for the receivers tonight. Hardman came up huge on multiple third downs and finished with 67 yards on the night. Godwin had 48 yards, 1 touchdown and a 2-point conversion.

On defense it was Roquan Smith who impressed the most, and who was named MVP of the conference championship. He had a sack, double digit tackles and 2 fumble recoveries.

Bad penalties still haunted Georgia, but the Dawgs prevailed.

A blocked Auburn field goal proved to be big for Georgia as well.

It was sweet revenge for the Dawgs, who fell 40-17 to Auburn three weeks ago at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Following their first game, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn was caught on camera saying “We whipped the dog crap out of them, didn’t we?”

Also, late in the fourth quarter, Auburn trolled Georgia by pumping Soulja Boy throughout the stadium, getting payback for when Georgia originated the idea in 2007.

That did not sit well with Kirby Smart and his Dawgs.

On Saturday, they got revenge.
