Georgia head coach Kirby Smart celebrated his SEC Championship victory over Auburn in the most Peach State way you could imagine.

Picture this: You’re in your second year as head coach of your alma mater. You just completed the third 12-win season in school history. You just blew out your rival en route to becoming champions of the toughest conference in college football. And you just clinched a spot in the College Football Playoff.

How would you celebrate?

Well, in Kirby Smart’s case, he channelled his inner Georgia boy. According to Pat Forde of Yahoo, upon Kirby’s arrival in Athens – coming from Atlanta – Smart celebrated his win with a good old-fashioned meal from Waffle House.

Forde wrote:

When the team returned from Atlanta after beating Auburn for the Southeastern Conference championship, Kirby made a quick stop at a Waffle House around 10 p.m. to pick up a to-go order. Then he got home and sank into the couch in the family room with his wife, Mary Beth, and their three children, Julia, Weston and Andrew.

All piled in together on one piece of furniture, they relived the triumph over Auburn and watched the second half of the Big Ten Championship Game.

Kirby is the definition of a Georgia boy. He grew up in Bainbridge, Ga., played football for the Dawgs, held his first coaching job as an assistant at Valdosta State, and, apparently, is a diehard Waffle House lover.

Also, in case you missed it, Kirby was named the SEC’s coach of the year on Wednesday.
