Baker Mayfield Star-Struck With Meeting A Georgia Legend

During the college football awards week, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was rubbing shoulders with many of the sport’s all time greats.

You wouldn’t think much could faze the Heisman Trophy winner, but when the senior signal caller met Georgia legend Herschel Walker, he was definitely in awe.

As Mayfield jokingly told OKNews.com, “He’s Herschel Walker. I don’t have to play him so it’s all right.”

Walker and Mayfield both finished in the top four of Heisman voting for three consecutive years. While Walker was one of the 20th century’s most highly recruited athletes, Mayfield was lightly recruited and originally walked on at Texas Tech.

“He looks like he could still play right now,” Mayfield said of the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner. “He’s impressive. You meet so many special guys, but a guy like that is a once-in-century athlete. It’s pretty neat.”

No. 2 Oklahoma meets No. 3 Georgia in the Rose Bowl on January 1. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. on ESPN.
