Christmas will come early this year for Kirby Smart and the University of Georgia.

Five-star Harrison High (Kennesaw, Ga) quarterback Justin Fields, announced via Twitter that he will sign with Georgia on the first day of the early signing period.

The 6-foot-3, 223-pound All-American committed to Georgia in early October, after de-committing from Penn State.

Fields chose the Dawgs over Florida State but that didn’t stop former Seminole coach Jimbo Fisher to try to get Fields to his new school, Texas A&M. In addition, new Florida coach Dan Mullen and incoming Florida State coach Willie Taggart were making heavy pitches to Fields.

Having Fields signed could be the catalyst Kirby Smart needs to close the deal with a number of five-star recruits, including defensive end Brenton Cox, the nation’s top guard, Jamaree Slayer, the nation’s 2nd-rated tackle, Cade Mays and defensive end Micah Parsons.

Georgia currently has the 3rd-rated recruiting class in the country.
