2018 National Championship Most Expensive Title Game Ever

The cost of the Dawgs getting to play for a title in their own backyard does not come cheap.

Georgia and Alabama will play for the national championship in Atlanta on Monday, and to get in the door you might need to take out a second mortgage on your house.

The 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship is the most expensive championship game in college football history, according to TicketIQ.

With tickets starting at $2,232, and extending all the way to $100,000, the lowest price is roughly $400 more than the other most expensive national championship in the past 8 years, the 2011 title game between Auburn and Oregon.

If you’re kicking yourself for not taking the gamble and buying national championship tickets a week ago, I don’t blame you. Following Georgia’s Rose Bowl victory, ticket prices jumped 30%.

For last years’s game, Clemson and Alabama had the second shortest combined travel distance to the title game, at 579 miles. Alabama and Georgia’s combined travel distance from campus is 274 miles, behind only the the 2012 championship game between LSU and Alabama at the Mercedes Benz SuperDome in New Orleans. While proximity to venue is a big demand driver for championship games, proximity in years to the last title than may be the biggest. In 2011 for Auburn, it had been over 50 years. Prior to beating Alabama last year, Clemson last won a title in 1981, one year after the Georgia Bulldogs 1980-season title.
