Georgia Almost Never Attempted 55 Yard Field Goal Before The Half

With 1 second left on the clock in the first half of the Rose Bowl, Georgia trailed 31-14 and had one last shot to dig into Oklahoma’s big lead before the half.

Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship would go on to nail the 55 yard field goal, making it a 31-17 Oklahoma lead and shifting the momentum in Georgia’s favor.

It was one of the most important plays of the game, but had Oklahoma put a return man in the end zone to field a possible miss, Georgia would have never attempted the kick.

Prior to the Dawgs trotting out to attempt the field goal, Kirby Smart can be seen telling punter Cameron Nizialek, who was serving as Blankenship’s holder, “If they have a guy deep, we’re not kicking it.”

Thankfully for Georgia, there was nobody deep, because that kick would have never happened.
