Georgia Football: Recapping An Incredible Ride

Georgia Football: Recapping An Incredible Ride

As I am still struggling to digest what happened on Monday night, all I can say is ‘what a ride’

The Georgia Bulldogs came into the 2017 season ranked 16th in the nation, following back-to-back years of ending the season unranked. Now, 5 months later, I don’t think anyone doubts that the Dawgs are, as Kirby Smart stated following Georgia’s loss to Alabama, “a force to be reckoned with.”

A 2nd year head coach, a true freshman quarterback, a 13-2 record, an SEC Championship victory, a Rose Bowl win, a thrilling national championship loss and a No. 2 ranking in the final AP Poll have proven that Georgia is indeed over ‘the hump.’

Roquan Smith won the Butkus Award, while Dominick Sanders tied the UGA interception record. Kirby Smart won Coach of the Year. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel even combined for the most rushing yards by a running back duo in the history of college football.

Even though the end result was not what we wanted, there is nothing to be ashamed of. And no, this is not us settling with mediocrity; in no way is losing to Alabama in overtime of the national championship – with a second year head coach and a true freshman quarterback – mediocre.

Our Bulldogs gave it everything they had, and then some this year.

If I had asked you in August what your expectations were for the 2017 season, I doubt many of you would have said you expected the Dawgs to lose by 4 points in the national championship to Alabama. If you do claim to have predicted the outcome of this season correctly, I don’t believe you.

We’re all so appreciative of the seniors who came back for one last ride. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel will find success at the next level, but seeing them not on the same team will be an uncanny feeling. Lorenzo Carter, Davin Bellamy and Dominick Sanders will all find roles in the NFL, as well. If Roquan decides to join them, then there is no doubt in my mind that he will dominate, as well. Isaiah Wynn and Javon Wims, thank you for your dedication to the G.

I believe in what Coach Smart is building, and the best part is… this is just the beginning.

Thank you to each and every one of the players and staff members of the Georgia Bulldogs for an incredible and memorable season.
