UGA fell to Frank Martin’s South Carolina team 64-57 in Athens. Yante Maten continued his outstanding season dropping 25 points, but it was not enough to defeat a defensive minded South Carolina team. Maten couldn’t get much help from the rest of the starters, who only provided 12 total points. On a positive note, the Dawgs did shut down South Carolina’s offense, holding them to 27% shooting. They will hope to build off that strong defensive effort.
Georgia is now 11-5 overall and 2-3 in SEC play. The Dawgs need to step it up in SEC play in order to make the NCAA tournament. The Bulldogs play next on Tuesday night at LSU. Their next home game is not until 1/23 against Arkansas.
