Report: 5-Star Member Of 2017 Class Not Currently Enrolled In Classes

According to Seth Emerson of Dawgnation, safety DeAngelo Gibbs, a 5-star member of Georgia’s 2017 recruiting class, is not currently enrolled in classes at UGA.

In response to an inquiry from Dawgnation, UGA spokesman Rebecca Beeler said Gibbs was “not currently enrolled in classes at UGA.”

Gibbs recorded 3 tackles last season, playing in only 6 games, with his last being against Florida. His status remains uncertain at this moment, but the team credited his absence in the second half of the season to a “medical issue.”

If Gibbs does return to Georgia next season, he will have a chance to compete for a starting role, thanks to the departures of Malkom Parrish, Aaron Davis and Dominick Sanders to the NFL.

Gibbs’ cousin, J.R. Reed, won a starting safety spot in 2017 and will return next season.

This could be a situation similar to that of defensive tackle Trenton Thompson, who withdrew from classes last spring and then returned to Georgia for the 2017-18 season.

Gibbs came to Georgia as a 5-star safety in the class of 2017, playing his high school ball at Grayson High School.

Thanks to Dawgnation for reporting the story.
