CFN SEC Pre-Spring QB Rankings: Where's Georgia?

Georgia may be losing a lot of talent across the board from its 2017 national title contending team, but one position that is not an area of concern is the quarterback unit.

Georgia returns soon-to-be sophomore Jake Fromm, who as a true freshman guided the Dawgs to the title game, or the Frommised Land if you will.

Though former 5-star Jacob Eason has packed up and transferred from UGA, Kirby Smart has no reason to worry about depth at the position – – Justin Fields, the nation’s number one overall recruit in the 2018 class, is already on campus and will compete with Fromm for the starting spot next season.

The quarterback unit is a strong one for the Dawgs, but how does it stack up to the rest of the conference?

Pete Fiutak of College Football News ranked the SEC’s best quarterback groups and Georgia checked in at number two behind Alabama, who returns Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts.

2. Georgia Bulldogs

Returning Starter: Jake Fromm, Soph.
Contender: Justin Fields, Fr.
Wild Card: John Seter, Soph.

Okay, there is no Wild Card. Jeter and Sam Vaughn are scout teamers who likely won’t see anything more than the sideline. With Jacob Eason off to Washington, the depth is lacking – all the eggs are in the Fields basket. Expected to be special right away, Fields is being called another Deshaun, but can he really knock out Fromm? It’ll be a good battle and great situation with two superior young quarterbacks fighting it out to see who gets to run a national championship-caliber team.
