5-Star Commit Scares Georgia Fans With Well-Played April Fool's Joke

Georgia fans received quite the April Fool’s scare on Sunday as the result of a well-played prank by 2019 5-star commit Nolan Smith.

Smith, who ranks as a 5-star defensive end from IMG Academy in the class of 2019, tweeted on Sunday that he had de-committed from Georgia and would be reopening his recruitment.

“I would like to publicly announce my de-commitment from the University of Georgia,” Smith wrote. “I would like to thank the coaches for providing me with this amazing opportunity, and for the fans for all of their support. I am forever grateful, and I would like to thank you for accepting my decision.”

Some Georgia fans were able to put one and two together and decipher the prank thanks to the date of April 1st, however, Smith’s tweet was so believable and well-worded that almost all fans, and even reporters, feared deep down that it may very well be true.

Late Sunday night, Smith came clean and let all Georgia fans take a sigh of relief.

Smith is one of Georgia’s three 5-stars for the class of 2019. He ranks as the nation’s fifth overall player, third ranked weakside defensive end and the top overall player in the state of Florida.

Well played, Mr. Smith.
