Georgia Students Take Graduation Picture Holding “Tyler Simmons Was Onside” Sign

For the University of Georgia’s 2018 graduating class, many thought their final football season would conclude with the hoisting of the national championship trophy in Atlanta.

But then came one of the most controversial calls in Georgia football history…

On Alabama’s first drive of the second half, with Georgia holding a 13-0 lead, UGA receiver Tyler Simmons appeared to jump the snap perfectly on an Alabama punting situation. Simmons blocked the punt and the Dawgs recovered inside the 30. Georgia would have had the chance to take a 16-0 or 20-0 lead. But we don’t need to relive that any further. The refs missed the call. Simmons was called offside. And the rest is history.

It’s a call Georgia fans will never forget, along with a series of other missed penalties throughout the game.

For graduates Emily Noles, Caroline Windham, Baylee Bruton, Ansley Gentry, Emma Faulk and Caroline Dent, the now Georgia alums used one of their final moments as a UGA student to make one last protest against the poor officiating.
