Georgia Football Well Represented In Atlanta Sports Council’s Annual Awards

The Atlanta Sports Council announced the finalists for the 2018 Atlanta Sports Awards on Tuesday and UGA Football had five nominees.

UGA was joined by Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United with five total nominees. Atlanta United, in its inaugural season in 2017, reached the playoffs and set league attendance records.

In that other football, Kirby Smart led the Dawgs to the SEC title, the National Championship game and a 13-2 record in his second year at the helm in Athens. He’s a finalist for the Coach of the Year honor.

Quarterback Jake Fromm and linebacker Roquan Smith, the eighth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, are both finalists for the Collegiate Athlete of the Year award. The Bulldogs are up for the Team of the Year Award and the NCAA national title game is a finalist for Moment of the Year.

In addition, Georgia freshman quarterback Justin Fields (Harrison High, Kennesaw), is a finalist for high school athlete of the year.
