Georgia now has a quarterback committed for the class of 2019.
On Friday night, four-star quarterback John Rhys Plumlee (Hattiesburg, Miss./Oak Grove) announced his commitment to UGA via his personal Twitter account.
“This has been a journey full of blessings!!,” Plumlee wrote. “I want to first thank my awesome God for all of my blessings!! I then would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for the continuous prayer and support through this whole process. With that being said I would like to announce that I am committed to continue playing football and baseball at the University of Georgia! Go Dawgs!”
Georgia beat out North Carolina, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Nebraska and Southern Miss for Plumlee’s commitment.
The 6’1″ and 285 pound prospect, who doubles as a baseball star, took a visit to Athens last month and participated in the recruiting scavenger hunt.
Plumlee ranks as the nation’s No. 269 overall prospect, No. 20 athlete and No. 12 recruit in Mississippi according to 247Sports. Slot receiver and defensive back are other possible destinations for Plumlee as well, however, he was in Athens a couple of weeks ago throwing the ball.
During his junior season, the versatile athlete threw for 1,888 yards and rushed for 795 yards, racking up 31 touchdowns.
Plumlee is Georgia’s ninth commitment for the class of 2019, which now ranks eighth overall in the nation.
