Rumors Of Georgia/Clemson Rivalry Revival Heating Up

As we mentioned back in April, Georgia and Clemson want to renew an old rivalry. Now, rumors once again are swirling that a three-game series between the two could be announced in the near future.

If ESPNUpstate’s report yields true, each team will likely host at least one home game in the series. With that leaving one game remaining, could we possibly see Georgia and Clemson kickoff a season in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta?

Auburn and Clemson scheduled a similar type of series that started back in 2010 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.  The series shifted to Clemson-Memorial Stadium the next season, with the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game the following year.  Auburn ended up taking the home and home games, while Clemson won at the Georgia Dome.

Georgia and Clemson had a home and home series in 2013 and 2014, which the two teams split; winning their respective home games.  Auburn played Clemson in a home and home over the last two seasons as well, so that might be an option if the 3 game series idea falls through.

However, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney stated back in April that he would like the rivalry with Georgia to become an annual game.  Fans surely would enjoy this scenario, except for the fact that it puts significant risk to both teams’ shot at the playoff, given one loses.
