Virginia Tech legend and college football hall of fame coach Frank Beamer may be retired, be he remains well-versed with the current college game.
While attending NFL coach Bruce Arians’ sixth annual Georgia Celebrity Golf Classic at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge on Lake Oconee, Beamer told DawgNation that he believes Georgia is “right there” with Alabama atop the college football world.
“I was having dinner with Nick (Saban) the other night, and I said with as many good programs as there are and scholarship limitations, I never thought any one team would dominate the way they have the last few years,” Beamer said. “I give Nick and Alabama a lot of credit, but I think Georgia is on it’s way, too.
Beamer, who boasted a 280-143-4 overall record as a head coach during career, has had some involvement with Georgia football, as his son Shane was an assistant coach at UGA, giving the hall of famer a first-hand view at how Kirby Smart runs his program in Athens.
