ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported that Todd Gurley has signed a record breaking 4 year, $60 million extension with the Los Angeles Rams. Gurley, a UGA legend and hero for many 2017 fantasy teams, agreed to the deal this afternoon, which includes the most guaranteed money ever for a RB: $45 million.
Gurley took the NFL by storm in 2017, leading the league with 19 total TDs and over 2,000 total yards from scrimmage. The contract was much deserved since he helped the Rams return to the playoffs. Additionally, Gurley was a large part of L.A.’s resurgent 2017 offense that led the league in scoring at 29.9 points per game, only a year after being dead last in the category.
The contract resets the market for RBs in need of new deals and shows the position and players have adapted more to the pass-happy NFL. Gurley, the highest paid RB in the NFL, can now focus on the upcoming season, where he and the Rams have high expectations coming into training camp.
