Sports Illustrated Ranks Georgia Lower Than Most For Upcoming Season

With college football just a few weeks away, what better way to kill the time than by analyzing *meaningless* preseason rankings.

ESPN and the Amway Coaches Poll have been released and Georgia was sitting right about where everyone expected the Dawgs to be, at number 4.

The most recently released, hot off the press top 25 comes from Sports Illustrated, who, though had Georgia high in the polls, had the red and black lower than most.

The Bulldogs come in at No. 6 in the sports magazine’s version of the Top 25 after being ranked 4th in the majority of preseason polls.  Below, we have listed SI’s entire Top 10.

  1. Clemson Tigers
  2. Alabama Crimson Tide
  3. Wisconsin Badgers
  4. Washington Huskies
  5. Oklahoma Sooners.
  6. Georgia Bulldogs
  7. Penn State Nittany Lions
  8. Auburn Tigers
  9. Ohio State Buckeyes
  10. West Virginia Mountaineers

After finishing ahead of Wisconsin, Washington, and Clemson last season and beating Oklahoma, it comes as a surprise to see the reigning SEC Champions ranked (so) low.  However, the Tigers do return a stacked defensive front that makes a strong case to be ahead of the Dawgs.  Outside of Clemson it really is hard to see why Georgia dropped.

Keep in mind that Georgia started off last season at No. 16 in Sports Illustrated’s rankings, so there shouldn’t be any panic in Athens, even with a lower than expected position.
