The wait is over for Chicago fans to see their team’s first round pick suited up in blue and orange.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears have signed former Georgia great Roquan Smith to a rookie contract.
After a month long battle between Smith’s agency – CAA Football – and Chicago’s front office, the two parties have have agreed on terms that will pay Smith $18 million over 4 years with $11 million in bonus money.
Smith’s salary will be in line with the rookie wage scale.
Whether or not the two sides resolved the issue of protecting Smith’s guaranteed money for a broad range of reasons is unknown at this point.
As mentioned here, we hope Smith came out on top of that battle, and not just because of his time at Georgia.
With a deal being complete, Smith may have enough time to be able to make his rookie debut against the Broncos on Saturday night, barring a passed physical.
