Report: Roquan Smith Contract Holdout Coming To An End

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears and  Roquan Smith are in the closing stages of finalizing a deal.

Smith, who was selected 8th overall by Chicago in April, is in the midst of a 4 week holdout as a result of contract language that can void Smith’s guaranteed money for a broad range of reasons. Smith is the only remaining draft pick that is yet to be signed to a deal.

However, according to Schefter, a deal is expected to be complete by the end of the day on Monday.

With this impasse soon to be behind him, the Montezuma native and Butkus award winning linebacker out of Georgia can now do what he does best: terrorize opposing running backs, quarterbacks and really just about anyone else who tries to get past him.

Smith looks to continue the tradition of excellence at the linebacker position in the Windy City, and will do so alongside former teammate and Georgia great Leonard Floyd, who has made a name for himself as one of the league’s rising pass rushing stars.

At Georgia, Smith recorded 252 career tackles, including 137 his junior season in 2017, which is widely regarded as one of the best individual seasons in UGA history by a player at any position.

Something tells me the second Smith steps on the field in Chicago and smothers an opposing back, Bears fans will quickly forget this whole thing ever even happened.
