Georgia Sophomore D’Andre Swift Receives Heisman Endorsement

After losing the programs second and third all-time career leading rushers to graduation, the Georgia Bulldogs simply reloaded with the next great running back in a long line of greats.

Sophomore D’Andre Swift had a breakout season in Georgia’s run to the national championship game and his exploits were recognized by ESPN college football analyst Joey Galloway.

During ESPN’s Heisman Trophy preview special, when speaking of Swift, Galloway stated, “He’ll have big games in the SEC, returning a lot of offensive linemen up front. He’ll have a chance to be big time.”

Galloway is a former all-Big Ten receiver at Ohio State and enjoyed an impressive 15-year NFL career. In naming Swift his unlikely choice to win the 2018 Heisman Trophy, the long-time ESPN analyst sees the talent in the Philadelphia running back and his supporting cast.

Four returning offensive line starters return and are joined by the nation’s top 2017 offensive tackle recruit, Isaiah Wilson. Add quarterback Jake Fromm, a seasoned corps of wide receivers, tight ends, several playmaking newcomers and quality depth at running back, Swift does indeed have a chance to be ‘big time’.

In the backfield, the 5-foot-9, 215-pound Swift will be pushed by juniors Elijah Holyfield and Brian Herrien, each who saw significant playing time last season. In addition, the most talked about freshman in preseason camp has been Miami freshman running back James Cook.

As a backup last year, Swift rushed 81 times for 618 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman. His 7.63 average per rush was second in the conference, only behind his teammate Sony Michel. In addition, Swift was a key factor in the passing game, with 17 receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown.

After this week’s Tuesday practice, Swift addressed the media and stated, “I’m making sure I’m more conditioned, I know I’ll get more carries, in that aspect.”

Carrying the torch for Running Back U, Joey Galloway’s prediction has merit and the talented Swift may just find himself in New York in early December.
