Predicting The Outcomes Of The Most Anticipated Week 1 Games

The college football season is finally here, even though we have to wait two more long days to see the Georgia Bulldogs play.

We preview which games to watch over the weekend, as well as predictions on all of the biggest games.

So let’s get rolling…

UCF @ UConn

The self-proclaimed national champion UCF Knights travel to Mansfield, Connecticut Thursday night to take on the UConn Huskies in the only matchup featuring a ranked team. The Knights can certainly handle UConn after adjusting to the road atmosphere early.  This one should be close for a quarter or so, but that is about it.

Prediction: UCF 38, UConn 20

Washington vs. Auburn

Washington travels to Atlanta to face Auburn in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.  The Huskies’ high-powered offense battles it out with Auburn’s defense in the peach state, where Auburn has found little recent success and likely faces the same fate once again.

Prediction: Washington 34, Auburn 31

Alabama vs. Louisville

Louisville ventures south to Orlando, with the reigning champion Crimson Tide of Alabama lurking.  If Louisville still had Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson, then this might have been interesting, but Nick Saban’s teams are known for curb stomping opponents in opening games and we expect nothing less here.

Prediction: Alabama 42, Louisville 17

Michigan @ Notre Dame

Michigan travels to South Bend, Indiana to renew a storied rivalry with Notre Dame in a much-anticipated primetime game on Saturday night.  College Gameday will set up shop at this mightily hyped contest, though both teams often fail to overcome their preseason expectations. Notre Dame survives a scare at home, which comes down to home field.

Prediction: Notre Dame 28, Michigan 24

LSU vs. Miami

Sunday, the ‘Bayou Bengals’ of LSU head west to face Mark Richt’s new look Miami Hurricanes in Dallas.  Ed Orgeron’s already been labeled as a hot seat candidate before the season has even started, so the pressure will be on. However, Miami pulls away in the second half to beat a shell of LSU’s former self.

Prediction: Miami 35, LSU 24

Virginia Tech @ Florida State

If the weekend did not fill your football fix,  the Virginia Tech Hokies head down to Tallahassee for an often overlooked clash with Willie Taggart’s Florida State Seminoles on Monday night.  Florida State, coming off a confusing 6-6 season, leaves many questions.  Due to the unknown certainty of the ‘Noles, Virginia Tech seems like the wiser pick.

Prediction: Virginia Tech 31, Florida State 21

We left off a few decent games, but make sure to stay tuned for our full list of SEC predictions, still to come.  And yes, the Dawgs are going to get it done this weekend.

57-20 in favor of the Bulldogs, since we don’t want to keep you waiting.
