Quarterback Questions Continue For Georgia’s Kirby Smart

If Georgia’s game vs Austin Peay was a prelude to how Kirby Smart will utilize the quarterback rotation of starter Jake Fromm and freshman Justin Fields, forget about it.

During Coach Smart’s weekly news conference Monday, he indicated Fromm will start at quarterback when the Dawgs visit South Carolina on Saturday. Answering a reporter’s question regarding a plan for Fields to enter the game, Smart indicated the game itself will dictate when Fields will play.

“It’s just a situation where there’s no plan,” Smart stated. “We’ll go with how things go and how the flow of the game goes.”

Fromm started his 15th consecutive game on Saturday. He led the Bulldogs to a field goal and two touchdowns in his first three series. Fields entered the game on Georgia’s fourth offensive series and also found success.

Fromm was 12-16 for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Fields went 7-of-8 for 63 yards, including his first collegiate touchdown. He had a good command of the game and scrambled three times for 33 rushing yards when the play broke down.

“I thought Fields did a good job Saturday in the game, handled things well,” Smart said. “But I don’t know what this game is going to dictate, what this game is going to bring. We’ll see.”

South Carolina (1-0), who defeated Coastal Carolina 49-15 last weekend, traditionally plays Georgia tough in Columbia.  The Dawgs have had difficulty putting points on the board in Williams-Brice Stadium and the Red & Black will need to be clicking on all cylinders in the SEC opener.
