Following Georgia’s 41-17 victory over South Carolina in Columbia, Gamecocks head coach Will Muschamp met with the media to discuss the loss.
“Just got whipped on the line of scrimmage,” Muschamp said to open.
“Disappointed, obviously, in how we played. Give Georgia credit, because they’re a good football team. Appreciate our fan-base and how they showed up here today. We needed to play better and that’s on me. A lot of ball to play.”
Georgia wide receiver Mecole Hardman had a stellar game, recording 6 catches for 103 yards and 1 touchdown. Muschamp was asked about went wrong defensively on Hardman.
“We busted a coverage,” he said. “Obviously, we were in man coverage and got mixed up on the long (gain). That was just a bust. We were in man-coverage and had a mistake made, to put them down on the 5-yard line. … Outside linebacker doesn’t walk out on the apex, so when we do turn the ball back, there’s nobody to turn it back to, so the tempo got us a little bit. Didn’t get lined up and didn’t get where he was supposed to get.”
Georgia’s offensive line play has been some of the best in the country over the last two seasons. Smart knows that’s what it takes to win in this league, and when asked about the main difference between Georgia and South Carolina, Muschamp noted the offensive line.
“They’re very good on the line of scrimmage. They’re massive on the o-line. … Overall, we’ve got to continue to improve and we will.”
