This Is The Deepest Georgia Football Team In History

When UGA opened its 2018/19 football season against Austin Peay, everyone knew it would be a walk in the park (all due respect to Nicholls State two years ago, but now that was then, this is now.) What Dawg fans may not have fully anticipated, however, was the consistent play throughout the game; Georgia’s level of dominance did not drop off when the third and fourth stringers came in in the second half.

This sentiment was echoed by UGA personalities on social media who were delighted with the depth of this year’s squad.

On Saturday in Columbia, the immense depth of this UGA squad became even more apparent. Against a ranked South Carolina team in a rowdy road environment, Georgia wholly and comprehensively dominated throughout the game, even when they unloaded their bench.

Defensively, the Dawgs are riddled with former 4/5 star players that are itching to get in the game and make their presence felt. Against South Carolina, a whopping 20 different players registered a tackle.

On offense, Justin Fields once again looked comfortable running the show with fellow rookie James Cook, and 8 different Dawgs caught passes including receivers that play limited minutes such as Trey Blount and Jeremiah Holloman. The most noteworthy offensive performance was the backup offensive linemen who came in and dominated, particularly rookie Cade Mays who was a monstrous presence in the third quarter.

UGA has had many superb football rosters. Under Mark Richt, there were many years that the team was deep thanks to his recruiting reputation. Kirby Smart is a new animal entirely. This is deepest team we’ve ever had, and next years team will be even….deeper.
