Natrez Patrick Talks Buying Into Kirby Smart's System: "We're Striving For Greatness"

On Tuesday, following a roughly two hour practice in preparation for Georgia’s upcoming game against Middle Tennessee State University, UGA linebacker Natrez Patrick was one of the select few to meet with the media.

Patrick, who enrolled early as a Mark Richt recruit in 2014 out of Atlanta, has witnessed the change of culture in Athens over the last 4 years.

From playing on Richt’s final team, to going 8-5 on Kirby’s first team, Patrick is now finally embracing a winning culture at Georgia.

When asked about buying into Kirby’s system at UGA, Patrick sounded a lot like his head coach, stating that “good isn’t good enough.”

“I just feel like it’s a mentality that good isn’t good enough. We’re striving for greatness,” the former 4-star recruit said.

The 2017 or even the 2018 Georgia squads may not be the perfect football team, but what made/make them great is their will to keep getting better.

“I know great is hard to come by, but pushing forward, we’ll be better than good.”

And part of what makes Kirby so great is that he does not settle for good, and rarely even settles for great. He wants perfect and nothing short of it.

“He doesn’t allow us to get comfortable,” Patrick continued. “That’s the drop-off between a lot of teams, and guys who do well, and guys who don’t…I’d say it was definitely a process that we did have to buy into. Once he got us, the process worked. It was a no-brainer for me. Everybody bought into it.”
