What Kirby Smart Said After Georgia's 49-7 Win Over MTSU

It was not always pretty, but Georgia overpowered Middle Tennessee State on Saturday in Athens en route to a 49-7 win.

The Dawgs advance to 3-0 on the season, and shift their focus to next week’s game against Mizzou in Columbia, Missouri.

After the game, ESPN’s Rocky Boiman met with Kirby Smart on the field to discuss the victory.

“A lot of hard work, a lot of toughness,” Smart said when asked about what enabled Georgia to roll to a 49-7 win.

Standing next to Smart was running back Elijah Holyfield, who rushed 8 times for 100 yards in the game.

“This guy made several of em, just making people miss. Guys that we didn’t block, he still made the miss,” Smart said of Holyfield. “Good players will do that for you.”

Georgia was plagued by a lack of discipline on Saturday, as the Dawgs were penalized 7 times for 54 yards.

Smart was not thrilled about that, as you can imagine.

“Stupid, silly penalties,” Smart said when asked what his team can improve on. “We gotta do a better tackling on defense.”

“Thought we created some turnovers. Thought offense was explosive, but third down they gave us some pressure and frustrated us. Just gotta do a better job not getting those third and longs.”
