Former Georgia Player Compares Riley Ridley To UGA Legend

Former Georgia all-SEC defensive end Charles Johnson, a longtime Carolina Panther who recently announced his retirement from the NFL, can now shift his focus to becoming UGA’s No. 1 fan.

Johnson, a native of Hawksinville, Ga., often expresses his love for UGA on his social media pages, recently stating he will be “betting big money on them Dawgs this year.”

Now, it appears Johnson has high expectations for Georgia junior wide receiver Riley Ridley, who caught 5 catches for 87 yards and 1 touchdown on Saturday in UGA’s 43-29 win over Missouri.

During Ridley’s stellar performance, Johnson tweeted a bold prediction, claiming the Coconut Creek, Florida native will be the next AJ Green at Georgia.

Fun fact: They both wore/wear the number 8 jersey at UGA.

Ridley’s first two seasons were rather quiet at Georgia, recording 238 yards in 2016 and 218 yards as a sophomore. However, Ridley turned heads across all of college football in the 2018 national title game, recording 6 catches for 82 yards going up against his brother Calvin at Alabama.

This season, Ridley has caught 13 passes for 164 yards and 3 touchdowns.

With Ridley having one year of eligibility remaining and Georgia’s season still in the early stages, he should have plenty of opportunities to approach Green’s level of collegiate success.

It won’t be easy given that Green is one of the best receivers in Georgia history, but hey, if he can come close to Green’s level, we will all be extremely pleased.
