UGA Football DB Deandre Baker Goes In Top 5 Of NFL Mock Draft

One of the earliest 2019 NFL Mock Drafts was unveiled by the analytical scouts of Pro Football Focus (PFF) on Monday.

Given that the NFL season is only three weeks old, the draft order may be a bit premature. PFF’s estimates are based on their win projections for each of the league’s 32 teams.

The 0-3 Arizona Cardinals are slated to pick fourth and are currently projected to pick Georgia cornerback Deandre Baker. According to PFF, the senior from Miami is capable of playing in any scheme. He is particularly a good fit for Arizona’s zone-heavy system. He moves well and he’s a playmaker, allowing a passer rating of only 32.6 into his coverage this season for the Bulldogs.

Baker has shut down two of the highest profile wide receivers in the nation this season. He limited USC’s Deebo Samuel (who PFF has going 29th to the Jacksonville Jaguars) to 33 yards and Missouri’s  Emanuel Hall, who entered the game leading the SEC with 430 receiving yards to no receptions.

Baker has two interceptions and three passes defensed this season. In addition, the 5’11”, 185-pound Baker isn’t afraid of contact as he is fifth on the Bulldogs with 16 tackles and forced a fumble.

Georgia leads the SEC in allowing only 4.7 yards per pass attempt. The Dawgs host a Tennessee team Saturday that has the seventh most proficient passing attack in the conference. Expect Baker to match up with the Vols’ speedy wideout, Marquez Callaway, who has 14 receptions on the season and averaging 15 yards per catch.

Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Sanford Stadium and will be televised by CBS.
