UGA Football Fans On Twitter Declare Georgia's Biggest Rivalry

According to our Twitter followers, who voted  on a poll that received nearly 5,000 votes, Georgia’s biggest rivalry game of the season is a matchup against another SEC East team – the University of Florida.

Historically the Bulldogs are 51-43-2 against the Gators, but have struggled to win at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Florida for the better part of the last 30 years. UGA last won against Florida last in 2017 in a 42-7 blowout led by Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Roquan Smith. The past three seasons before that haven’t been as close. In 2016, UGA fell 24-10 to Florida in a game where as a the Dawgs they only rushed for 21 yards on 19 carries and totaled eight first-downs through all four quarters.

The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, between Georgia and Auburn, has been heating up again lately, pushing 30% of voters to consider Auburn as Georgia’s biggest rival. Sure, UGA’s won 10 of the last 13, but the Tigers recent success strikes some fear into the Bulldogs and has made their late season matchup all the more important. Last season, Georgia’s undefeated season was derailed by a 40-17 loss on the Plains, but the Dawgs found revenge in Atlanta with 28-7 win and an SEC title. The series began in 1892, Georgia football’s inaugural season. Since 1898, the two schools have played almost every year, except for in 1917 and 1918 as a result of World War 1, and in 1943 thanks to the Second World War.

Although UGA faces off against Georgia Tech during the final week of the regular season, most UGAFootballLive followers on Twitter don’t consider the Yellow Jackets as the biggest rival, with only 8% of the votes. The Bulldogs lead the Clean, Old Fashioned Hate rivalry 66-41-5. Despite the heartbreaking 28-27 loss in Athens two seasons, Georgia has won 14 of the last 17 matchups against Tech.

The Georgia-Florida rivalry, often dubbed the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, takes place following UGA’s bye-week in the middle of the season. EverBank Stadium is split 50/50 down the goal posts with both Dawg and Gator fans traveling to Jacksonville for the “neutral site” game.

This upcoming season, the Bulldogs will face off against the Gators on October 27, 2018 during their usual 3:30 p.m. time slot on CBS. It will be their 97th matchup against one another.
