5-Star Running Back Decommits From Georgia

On Thursday, 5-star running back John Emery announced his decision to decommit from the University of Georgia and to reopen his recruitment.

Emery (Destrehan, La.), who ranks as the No. 2 running back in the country for the class of 2019, committed to Georgia in July but will now entertain recruitment from other schools.

The Louisiana native was in attendance at Georgia’s loss to LSU in Baton Rouge, and the Tigers, who already have a commitment from a 4-star back in the class, emerge as a high possibility for Emery.

Georgia, which once possessed the nation’s top class for 2019, has dropped to No. 4 in the past few weeks after losing two five-star players in Emery and Jadon Haselwood, a wide receiver who ranks as the nation’s No. 3 overall player.

Emery ranks as the nation’s No. 1 running back, No. 16 prospect in the country and No. 2 in Louisiana,  per the 247Sports rankings.
