FiveThirtyEight Projects Georgia's Playoff Chances After First Rankings

The first College Football Playoff rankings of the season have Georgia at No. 6, prompting us to look at a handful of different simulations.

We played around with FiveThirtyEight’s playoff prediction model to see how the Bulldogs can climb back into the bracket or end their chances at a return to the semifinals.

Heading into week 10, projected as follows.

The current projections:

If Georgia beats Kentucky:

If Kentucky beats Georgia:

If Georgia wins out:

Not much has changed for the Bulldogs from last week except eliminating Florida from contention.  With the Gators behind them, Georgia can now turn its focus to Kentucky and locking up the East.

Assuming the Dawgs get past the Cats in Lexington, the road ahead gets a bit easier.  Georgia should be able to cruise to Atlanta with only one loss on its schedule.  However, college football is bound to unexpected cause chaos that none of us could predict.
