Georgia vs. Auburn: Quick Hits, Statistical Look At Top Players

No. 5 ranked Georgia (8-1, 6-1) and unranked Auburn (6-3, 6-3) square off for the 123rd matchup of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry this Saturday at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

Georgia has already clinched the SEC East, so at this point, the Dawgs are fighting for a shot at a return to the College Football Playoff. For Auburn, the Tigers’ season no longer holds SEC Championship or Playoff aspirations, but Gus Malzahn would love nothing more than to knock Georgia off and ruin its season before December.

Auburn started the season off ranked No. 9 in the country, after a great 2017 season that saw the Tigers beat Georgia and Alabama in the regular season, but fall short in the conference championship and in the postseason to UCF.

Auburn returned a lot of talent to its 2018 team, but could not maintain its top-10 ranking, or any ranking for that matter. Auburn opened the season with a win over Washington, which ranked No. 6 at the time. That win has since been downgraded from a great win to a mediocre one after the Huskies would go on to lose two more games and are now unranked and sitting at 7-3.

Auburn lost a respectable game to LSU 22-21 but then fell short to Mississippi State and gave Tennessee its first conference win in over two years.

Now at 6-3, Auburn travels to Athens to play yet another ranked team in the Georgia Bulldogs.
