Two Georgia Greats Nominated For Prestigious NFL Award


The NFL announced today that Georgia Bulldog greats and current NFL All-Pro players Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals A.J. Green were nominated for the 2018 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.

This award was created in 2014 to honor Art Rooney, Sr. ,founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The past winners are Larry Fitzgerald (2014), Charles Woodson (2015), Frank Gore (2016) and Luke Kuechly (2017). Nominees demonstrate integrity and honor on the field and are role models for players at all levels.

Green currently has 45 receptions for 687 yards and is tied for 10th in the league with six touchdowns. Gurley is having an MVP-like season. He leads the NFL in rushing yards rushing yards (988), rushing touchdowns (13), total touchdowns (17), rushing yards per game (98.8) and scoring (108) this season.

In order to determine this year’s winner, a group of former players from the NFL’s Legends Community will vote and name eight finalists, four from each conference. Current players will then vote as a part of the Pro Bowl ballot on December 14. The winner will receive a trophy and $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to a charity of his choice.
