An Emotional Kirby Smart Makes Georgia's Case To Playoff Committee

After Georgia’s 35-28 loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship, the Bulldogs’ hopes for a playoff invitation are looking slim.

The committee’s goal is to select the four best teams, and though his team now has two strikes in the loss column and can’t claim conference supremacy, Kirby Smart believes his Georgia Bulldogs are still one of the four best teams in the country.

During his postgame press conference, an emotional Smart made his case for the Dawgs to the committee. It’s hard not to appreciate his passionate reasoning.

No. 5 Oklahoma beat Texas for the Big 12 title and No. 6 Ohio State is leading Northwestern at the half, but did Georgia do enough today to earn a place in the playoff? Alabama had won every game this season by at least 20 points. Today, Georgia ended that streak in a game that the Dawgs really should have won.

Following the game, Nick Saban had only good things to say about his former defensive coordinator Kirby Smart’s team, which has played Alabama down to the wire in their past two meetings.

“They are one of the four best teams in the country,” Saban said following the game. “I don’t want to play them again. That is the ultimate compliment I can give them.”

Saban may not want to play Georgia again, but if the Dawgs do make it in, they’ll do so as a four seed. That means it would be a Georgia/Alabama rematch in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

The final playoff rankings are reveled tomorrow, Sunday, December 2nd. DawgNation is holding their collective breath.
